The Hundred Mile Music Show: The Idea

The inspiration came out of a conversation at Mr. Inkbee in downtown Owen Sound, when Rhonda Flanagan suggested to Enio the idea of an Owen Sound music radio show based on the same principle as the hundred-mile diet.

The notion percolated for a few days, during which time Enio ran into Steve at the Bean Cellar, that downtown hotbed of creative thinking, relentless scheming, and great coffee. Steve needed no persuading, and battle was joined.

Enio and Steve discovered they shared some opinions: that there is a significant community of musical creativity in the broader Owen Sound/Grey-Bruce region; that the realities of geography mean the area is somewhat removed from the main east-west arteries of southern Ontario; that a radio platform that provided exposure for regional performers - not only to local listeners but also, thanks to the internet, to the wider world - would fill a gap and serve as a catalyst.

The show is broadcast live, allowing for real-time listener interaction via facebook chat and email, as well as live interviews with performers, both in-studio and on-the-road.
